CAS Project
What is the CAS Project?
The CAS project is a fundamental component of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Unlike one-time CAS experiences, a CAS project is a sustained, collaborative effort that demonstrates planning, initiative, and commitment. The project must span at least one month, with ongoing involvement, and requires collaboration with other students (typically 3, however discuss with Mrs. Basso first). All IBDP students are required to complete at least one CAS project.
Engaging in a CAS project not only helps students develop essential skills such as leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving but also enhances their personal growth and sense of community involvement. Additionally, successful completion of a CAS project can be a valuable addition to university applications, showcasing a student's commitment to making a positive impact.
Requirements
- Similar to other CAS experiences, the project should fall under one or more CAS strands
- A CAS project must demonstrate at least three of the seven CAS learning outcomes
- Must be around one month long
- Students need to have a supervisor
- Students must show evidence of planning, and problem-solving
- Students must reflect throughout the entire process, not just at the end
Suggested CAS Project Process
- 1. Investigation: identify a topic, issue, or interest that matters to you
- 2. Permission: discuss with Mrs. Basso, and find a supervisor
- 3. Preparation: set a timeline, and assign roles to team members
- 4. Action: communicate regularly with your group and supervisor, and try to work regularly instead of waiting until the end
- 5. Reflection: track your progress and learning/development, reflect regularly (we recommend you reflect every 10 days)
Example CAS Projects
- Mental Health Week: organize a school-wide awareness week with posters, workshops, and guest speakers on student well-being
- School Garden Initiative: create a vegetable or flower garden for an elementary school that also serves as a learning space
- Art Exhibition: launch an art exhibition raising awareness about a social issue (e.g. climate change, domestic violence, etc.)
