Supervisors
Who are Supervisors?
All students writing the extended essay are supported by a supervisor, usually a teacher at the school. The supervisor is typically a specialist in the student’s extended essay topic in order to enhance the level of feedback the student may receive. The supervisor’s goal is to help the student through the research and experimental process, overcome any obstacles faced, or answer any questions. It is important to keep in mind that if there are any questions regarding the extended essay itself, a student is also allowed to ask for help from the IB extended essay coordinator. Mr. Booker is the IB extended essay coordinator at Oakridge and is available to answer any questions about the structure, format, or contents of the essay. A student does not need to have any mandatory meetings with the extended essay coordinator, however, each student needs to perform 3 reflection meetings with their supervisor. These meetings tend to the student’s needs and can involve, but are not limited to, questions, reflections, or just relevant conversation.
