Things to Do

Below are a few tips to consider when writing/planning your extended essay:

    1. Choose a topic that interests you

Taking into consideration that each student works approximately 40 hours on their extended essay, it will benefit you greatly if you pick a topic that you find interesting.

    2. Specify your essay

Ensure that your essay is somewhat original and interesting. Attempt to provide a unique perspective on current knowledge, as this will help make your essay stand out. Going in-depth on certain topics is a great way to do this.

    3. Talk with your supervisor

Your supervisor has likely gone through multiple years of schooling relating to your extended essay topic and can provide valuable insight. Do not be afraid to ask for advice from your supervisor. Remember, you need a minimum of 3 meetings with your supervisor, but there is no maximum!

    4. Note sources

Research will be the hardest part of your extended essay. It will take a long time finding enough relevant sources for your essay. This is why each source you find is valuable, and it is important not to lose them. It is recommended that you create a folder to put all your sources into. In addition, if this feature is available, highlighting key parts of your sources before downloading them will save lots of time when referring back to them later on.
