About IB English Lang & Lit HL

At Oakridge, English: Language and Literature is one of the three HL courses that students take as part of the IB program. This course is designed to develop your ability to think critically, read deeply, and communicate effectively. In this course, you engage with a wide range of literary and non-literary texts from different periods, and genres. You explore how language shapes meaning, identity, and perspective, while learning to analyze style, structure, and context. Through discussion, writing, and oral presentations, you build advanced skills in interpretation and argumentation. English HL encourages you to become a confident, thoughtful communicator and a globally aware reader, prepared for university-level study.
