Overview

About IB French B SL

At Oakridge, French B is one of the three SL courses that students take as part of the IB program. This course is designed for students with some prior experience in French and aims to further develop their ability to understand and communicate in the language. You build your skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing through the study of a variety of themes, such as identities, experiences, and global issues. Emphasis is placed on cultural understanding, vocabulary development, and grammatical accuracy. By the end of the course, you will be able to engage in meaningful conversations, interpret and write authentic texts, and express yourself confidently in a range of everyday and academic contexts.

Note for This Section

As French is taught differently from other IB courses at Oakridge, where there is not a defined structure on what vocabulary or grammar structures should be taught, we opted to instead provide lists of useful words, expressions, and grammar tips which can be used in most general situations. However, we also provide an overview of the different text types that one could encounter during the written IB exam, which are specific to this course and should be learned as per IB guidelines for French B.

Also note that some parts of this section are written in French instead of English, which is intended to improve your comprehension skills and familiarize you with French terms that you may encounter throughout this course.
